Google Let Us Talk in Gmail

February 10th, 2006

It was a big surprise for me when I saw Google is about to integrate Google Talk into Gmail after away from my Gmail for a week. It's functioning now.

If you haven't seen it, it basically logs you into Google Talk when you are in your Gmail inbox. You will be able to see who's online (in Google Talk or Gmail) and chat with them directly in your inbox (without any installation). All your chat history will be saved in the "Chats" folder.

It's a nice feature for me, since I don't like to install IM in office. I hope that it will support multiple users in the future, so that we won't have to chat with a group of friends using "reply to all".

Not impressed with this new Gmail feature? Log yourself out of Google Talk by clicking on your status in "Quick Contacts" at the sidebar of your Gmail.

More configuration is available at Settings > Chat.
