Google Base – Public Knowledge Base

November 17th, 2005

With Google Base, you can now submit all kind of information you have to Google, which will eventually make your information available to everybody online. This includes online and also offline information. A sample list of item types (available at Google Base) that you might want to add to Google Base are as follows:

  • Course schedules
  • Events and activities
  • Jobs
  • News and articles
  • People profiles
  • Products
  • Recipes
  • Reference Articles
  • Reviews
  • Services
  • Vehicles
  • Wanted Ads

The submitting process is very simple, only very few steps to go through:

  1. Choose an item type
  2. Enter all related information
  3. Add pictures (if there's any)
  4. Add a link to your content (if it’s an online content)
  5. Publish!

I’ve tried to submit one of my blog entries about "recovering corrupted hard disk" to Google Base. I’ll see if it affects the traffic to my blog entry. However, I guess it won’t make much difference because I’ve my WordPress pings Google Sitemaps each time I make a post.

I see a "Processing - will publish soon" status after publishing my blog entry. I’ll need to wait, again (I’m still waiting for Google Analytics to show my statistics). It seems like Google likes to do things in batch. Well, have to wait and see.

I’ll keep you updated if it’s something useful for us as bloggers.
