Customizing Chitika for Bloggers

October 26th, 2005

Recently, I see that Chitika is making a number of improvements which are worth to be noticed. From Chitika blog, I read about the improvements to know what can be applied to integrate Chitika eMiniMall into WordPress.

Blog Title as Keyword

Since most of the bloggers will have Google Adsense running on their site, they can’t have another contextual ads system running on their blog. Therefore, they suggest on disabling contextual targeting (current default) and use blog titles as keywords to target eMiniMalls. This can be done easily for WordPress users:

ch_non_contextual = 1;
ch_query = "< ?php the_title(); ?>";

Do take note that you might need to check that ads is available on your topic. You can check that on any Chitika ad with the search tab. A convenient Chitika ad is available at Chitika site, if you want to check your topic.

Although this sounds interesting, I can’t find any ad available for most of my blog topic. This technique should be very useful for gadget blogs, I guess.

Changing Ad Background

While this is nothing new in Adsense, Chitika has just added this feature few days ago. If you didn’t aware of that, the old eMiniMalls comes only with white background. But now you can configure it with:

ch_color_bg = "#CCCCCC";

Disabling Search

It has been an issue whether eMiniMall search is compatible with Adsense. JenStar blogged that you can now enable search feature in your eMiniMalls. However, if you still would like to keep it off, you can disable it with this code:

ch_nosearch = 1;
