I'm quite agree with your thinking. When you know they are doing it for profit, you wouldn't really want to use it anymore. :)

In a way I think it is a bit of a shame, surely Yahoo can only want it to increase profits. I prefer using software which I know the main purpose of it is not to create the owner revenue. For example I love Wordpress, it's free customizable and completely opensource. I personally feel that servics such as Flickr are extremely over rated and I cannot not see why so many bloggers choose to use them.

I really hope Yahoo leave Del.icio.us as it is and don't stick a label on the bottom proclaiming "A Yahoo Company". We'll see...

Its not that shocking news because it is the rule or say nature of business in which acquisitions are common and if the acquiring firm is a big enterprise such as Yahoo!, it is not that hard to imagine. I think, it will only make the life of most bloggers easy anyway ;)

When I first read about it, I have exactly the same thought as you.

If they acquired them and run it as a independently, I guess they are just trying to eliminate potential competitor. Or probably they wanted to acquired some technologies from them? No idea.

This is a surprising piece of news.

Though, I do wonder how they'll be able to integrate del.icio.us' features with their MyWeb 2.0 thingy? Or will they run it as a separate piece of software, akin to Flickr and Yahoo! Photos?

Hmm, questions, questions.
